What Do You Want to Be Doing When You’re 80?

When you get to be a certain age, growing older isn’t something you necessarily want to happen — it just happens. But 80 today for many people isn’t the same 80 as it used to be. Some 80-year-olds are still traveling around the world and riding elephants.
What do you want to be doing when you’re 80?
In “This Is What 80 Looks Like,” Gail Collins writes about the American feminist Gloria Steinem turning 80:
On Tuesday, Gloria Steinem turns 80.Do not bother to call. She’s planning to celebrate in Botswana. “I thought: ‘What do I really want to do on my birthday?’ First, get out of Dodge. Second, ride elephants.”Very few people have aged as publicly. It’s been four decades since she told a reporter, “This is what 40 looks like.” Back then many women, including Steinem herself, fudged their age when they left their 20s, so it was a pretty revolutionary announcement. A decade later she had a “This is what 50 looks like” party at the Waldorf for the benefit of Ms. Magazine. Steinem, who has frequently said that she expects her funeral to be a fund-raiser, has been using her birthdays to make money for worthy causes ever since. Before heading off to Botswana, she, along with Rabbi Arthur Waskow, was feted at a “This is what 80 looks like” benefit for the Shalom Center in Philadelphia.Ever the positive thinker, Steinem composed a list of the good things about starting her ninth decade. A dwindling libido, she theorized, can be a terrific advantage: “The brain cells that used to be obsessed are now free for all kinds of great things.”“I try to tell younger women that, but they don’t believe me,” she said in a pre-Botswana interview. “When I was young I wouldn’t have believed it either.”Her famous hair is colored, but otherwise, there’s been no outside intervention. She likes to recall a friend who proudly reported having rebutted the feminist-got-a-face-lift rumors by announcing: “I saw Gloria the other day and she looked terrible.”Actually, she doesn’t look terrible at all. She looks great. She looks exactly the way you would want to imagine Gloria Steinem looking at 80.

1- When I’m 80, I want to have finished writing my last book. I plan to become an author or writer as my career. I want to at least written ten books before I age to 80.
ReplyDelete2- I would want to look as if I were still in my sixties. I definitely don’t want to look all wrinkly and almost look like bones. I want to still be pretty active and move around myself.
3- I want to be living in Canada. I pick Canada because I love the cold and I know it’s cold over there. I also want to be living in a big nice house.
4- I will be either finished or working on my last book that I’d plan to write.
5- I hope to have a husband by then. I will be spending most of my time with my siblings and possibly my current best friends.

first when i'm 80 i want to drive a racing car to see if i'm too fast too furious. also when i 80 i want to travel to japan so i can buy a lot of manga. one last thing i want to do when i'm 80 is learn japanese.

when i'm 80 years old i expect myself to be living in a house with a tv and hopefully netflix is still around so i could watch if not in a house i would like to live in a nice place so i can call it home so that i can watch netflix.
i think i would still be working at my dream job at a animation business for video games so that i can still make people happy for what i do and maybe i could be making one of the games.
when i’m 80 i want to be spending my time hopefully with a wife who likes comic so i wouldn't feel so lonely when i'm at home but i also expect myself to be in touch with friends from high school so that i know i still have friends out there.

What I Want to do when I'm 80 is still be a teacher. I Would be teaching middle school students because I'm going to be too old to be dealing with high school students because majority of them don't listen. Also wouldn't want to work with little kids either because i'm a very impatience old lady. When i'm 80 i would also love to own my own business and have people do what i say do Think that would be another great idea.
ReplyDeleteI would want to look taller than I am because I don't like being short. Also i would want my skin to be more smooth and not all hard because it just doesn't feel right. I would want my hair to be long and curly . I would want my weight to be just right.I wouldn't want to be just skinny and I Wouldn't just wanna be fat. I Want to be just right. I wouldnt want to look old even though i'm going to be old. I Still want to look some type of young.
I would be living in atlanta georgia where I Work at because I Know for a fact that I Wouldn't want to be traveling far. I also would be living in atlanta because i travel there before and I didn't want to leave. I love everything about it . Its very peaceful and you really dont have to worry about a lot of bad things because they have a lot of things things that can be done. I would want to live there because it would be kind of difficult teaching in atlanta and living in chicago, so i would rather work somewhere where its closer and altana is the right place for me to be.
Yes I Would be working because I loved to work with middle school students, they just right for me,but on the other hand i refused to work with primary and high school students because i know for a fact my patience is going to be very low. Yes I Would be working because if i retried then i wouldn't have any money and i wouldn't be getting my bills or anything paid .So retiring will never be on my list. I would make sure i stay with my job and make sure i don't lose it.
I would be spending my time with my family and husband because them is the only people that is going to be that important to me in my lifetime. friends i wouldn't have them because as i got older i realize that i don't have friends and I don't need them ,as long as i got my husband and family then i'm okay. I would also be spending it with my fellow students because I Love to teach and I would treat them as my family as well.

To me, I think that 80 is not really old, but old enough. I think that when i’m 80, i would like to own my own restaurant. As a child, I always liked to cook, and i always had a dream that i would open a successful restaurant. So by the age of 80, i would want to own my own restaurant. To me, this would be a very big chance in my life thinking of it now.
ReplyDeleteI love playing sports, but playing sports comes with a consequent them. I think that by the age of 80, i would have lots of scares and also memories behind them. To this day, i have about 20 scares and im only 15. I think that by the age of 80. i will also have a clean cut look that won't make me look 80 because of my very active lifestyle.
I LOVE to travel so far, i've been through lots of states and countries. Ive been to about 6 different countries so far. I think that i would still be in the U.S, but not in Chicago. Maybe i'll just have a summer home here. Ive always wanted to live somewhere tropical and sunny. I would like live in Hawaii. Yup thats right, i know that there is a lot of tourist attractions, but thats why i have a summer home in Chicago. My home town.
As I said in the 1st paragraph, i would own my own restaurant. So by that being said, i would still be working. But I think that i would love my job because it is my dream to open my own restaurant. I would really like to be getting up in the morning and doing what i do best. Cooking, and owning my own restaurant.
I think that i'm a person that would like to settle down with some that would be not exactly like me. But some one that i would like to spend the rest of my life with.

When I am 80 I will hopefully be traveling around the world with either my happily married wife and or with friends. I will be going to some of the most beautiful places around the world and seeing amazing sights that will a once in a lifetime moments that no one else will ever see. I would also like to scuba diving and parachuting in all crazy parts of the world. I will also be riding horses and driving the most amazing cars that I can get my hands on. Since I do love cars, I hope that I will be driving one anywhere I go across the world. Maybe even driving cars around the world.
ReplyDeleteWhen I am 80 I hope to look as good as possible. Since I do take care of my body I should be looking good. I am always working out and that will help me look better. I also eat quite healthy and so my body won’t be as wasted as other people. I will be in very good shape because I will be doing exercise daily and be eating healthy. I hope I will still have hair and not be bald like a lot of 80 year olds. And hopefully have my teeth as well. I take a lot of care of both my teeth and my hair so there will hopefully be no reason for me to not have either.
By the time I am 80 I will have a really nice big house somewhere by a beach. I would like to have more than one house. Maybe also have a ranch and have horses and cows, pigs, sheep, chicken and other animals. Maybe have a nice cabin somewhere in the woods so I can go hunting and camping whenever I want. Also to get away from other people and be peaceful for a couple of days. However. I think that having a nice house in a small town would be pretty good. To leave in peace and not having to worry much about other big problems in the city.
I hope that when I am 80 I will not be working unless I own a business. It would be cool because I would have done something quite big in my life if I own a business. Even Though owning a farm would be pretty cool and I think that it also a pretty good way to have some type of business. It would be cool to live sometimes with farm animals and the farm life has always looked interesting to me. So if I do not own a business I hope that I will not be working and that I will have the money that I want to do whatever I want. But I will for sure have money invested in stocks so I can keep getting money. The only job I would like to have is if I was living in a small town and maybe I worked as a mechanic.
I would love to spend practically all of my time with me wife and my best friends that I have ad my whole life up to being 80 years old. Maybe they will be my best friends that I have now in high school or that I will meet in college or at work. Maybe even just some random people that I somehow met and became very close with. Also if the person that I think will be my wife actually will be my wife when I am 80 years old, it would also be really fun and better because I wont be alone even though I know I will have my friends and family. It would just feel nicer to have someone to spend all my time with and my life. And that has helped me get to where I will hopefully be at in the future when I am 80 years old.

1) when i’m eighty years old I would like to still be playing music. I would want to be in a band because I want the band to make longer years than the rolling stones. I want to be playing music because It is the only thing that I like to do. I want to be an old musician that future musicians can look up to. At the age of 80 I want to be an unretired musician because music is the only thing that would keep me going and make me feel younger than what I will be.

I want to look like I’m fifty and tell people that I have honestly not have had any surgery. I would like to look that way because it will make people realize that I took care of myself as I got older so that I wouldn’t look gross. I would like to look 50 because It will make me look good and not gross.
3) I would be living in L.A. because it is where a lot of celebrities live and I want to live there because it is a nice place to live. I would live in california because there is a nice weather. I would like to live there because I would be living alone unless I’m marries which I don’t know if I am. I would be living a very rock and roll life where many people would be jealous of the awesome life I live. I would like to also live in london because it is where doctor who is filmed and it would be cool to live in london. I would really prefer England because it is filled with people that have an awesome accent.
4) I would be working because like I said music is the only thing that keeps me going. I would be working just to beat the years the rolling stones have been together. I would be working because musician is my dream job ever since I was a kid. I would be working as either a bassist or a drummer. I might be switching once in a while.
5) I would be spending my time with my grand kids, my wife, and my bandmates because they will be the people that would be most involved in my life. I would spend my time with them because I don’t want to be a lonely guy that has no one to share his awesome life with. I would spend life with family and my band because they will be people that have gained my trust over the years and who I know will never betray me. I will spend time with friends and family because even though I like being alone most of the time I get bored being alone sometimes. I would spend time with people I care about because I like to annoy people and that's why I like to spend time with people because I have a kick out of annoying people.

1. When I turn 80 years old I want to go all over the universe to protect it as a superhero. I am first going to be all my favorite superheroes and then I am going to be all my favorite supervillains. Later I am going to be every one of my least superheros and save and protect the universe from threats. After I am done with being all the superheroes and supervillains I will be a common citizen and I will become a rockstar. I will have my own band and we will perform all over the world. Then I am going to freeze myself for 1000 years and do the same thing over again.

I will turn into my least favorite people and make them look bad. For example, I am going to betray my own country and give secrets to the enemies and I am going to have a bad attitude when I am disguised as them. Then I am going to shapeshift into my favorite people and ideal people and make them look like heroes. I am going to shapeshift into them and I am going to do acts of courage.
3. When I turn 80 years old I will be living under the ocean for 8 years and build my own atlantis. Then I will go back to the surface and I will be living in Europe where I will be living with queen elizabeth. I will be living there for 30 years and then I will go back to Chicago to see how it has changed. Later when I get bored of living in the world I will visit extraterrestrial planets and I will visit martians. And after I visit extraterrestrial planets I will go back to earth and make my own kingdom where anyone over the age of 80 can come in and live there.
4. When I turn 80 years old I will be working 60 hours a month as a huge business owner. I will work another job as a cashier in dunkin donuts. I will be working there to get free doughnuts for life and to be known as a common citizen even if i’m rich. After I make 99 quadrillion dollars I will still work at dunkin doughnuts but I will also work as a scientist to find a new product that will make you 60 years younger. Then I will be making fun of the people that used to make fun of me when I was 80 years old. I will be doing things that teenagers do in the future. After I turn 80 years old I will use the product and live forever.
5. I would be spending my time with my best friends and a bunch of ladies when I turn 80 years old. Me and my best friends will be having a lot of fun without wives telling us what to do. And we will have fun without having any family that will worry for the things that we do. Then after all my best friends die I will hang out at the park daydreaming and hanging out with very young teenagers. They will teach me modern teen language and I will be using it to show off to older people.

The reason I want to do this because I heard it was fun and I have always wanted to do this. The next thing I want to do is write a graphic novel. I want to do this because I have always wanted to do this but I can’t right. The last and final thing I want to do when i’m 80 is settle down and live peacefully for the rest of my life.
When I am 80 years old I want to look a little bit younger than 80. I want to still have nice clothes but I don’t want to look weird. I want to drive a reasonable car for an 80 year old. The one thing that I want to drive just once is a sports car because I always wanted to know what it feels like to be behind the wheel of a sports car. I would also have my uniform from the marines for special occasions.
When I am 80 years old I want to be living in mississippi. I want to live there because my dad was born there and I always wanted to visit . I also want to live in mississippi because I want to try their food, I heard there is some really good food in mississippi. Not just my dad lived in mississippi my grandma live there too. I want to visit where they live and what it was like back then.
When I am 80 years old I would be retired. I would have been in the army for about 5 years, I would have then got a job and worked for 6 years. I would have done all of this after I get out of college. The job I would want after the army is a police officer for chicago because I want to help stop the violence in chicago. With this i would hope to have enough money for everything I want to do.
When I am 80 years old I hope to have a wife and kids. I want them to experience the joy of traveling the world with me. I want two sons to go skydiving with,and a daughter to help me with my graphic novel. Me and my friend would talk about everything we did in life and our time in the marines. When i am eighty i hope to have retired from the MLB and taking care of my family and watching out for each of them. I hope to have the ability of being able to do what ever i want and not letting my age take the best of me, because i want to be able to be their for my family physically. because i want to be their for my kids and i want them to be successful, and i want to make sure that i can make them as good in baseball so that they could live a great life. after all the money i would have made i say i would be living in a huge house in California, i would want to live their because its really nice and it would be a great fit for me and my family.
ReplyDeleteI no longer would be working because i would be rich after my baseball career is over and i would be supplied with all the money i need. but if i spend it all which i hope i don't, i would put some of it into starting business which would help me into making more money. i hope to also have a wife with a good paying job also so that i wouldn't have to be paying for everything.
I would be spending most of my times with my kids even if they are getting old and my wife because i would want to be like my dad because he is always caring for his family no matter what. and it really makes me happy knowing he cares so much that he would do anything. i would want to be like this because i am a careful person and i want the ones around me to be successful.
I would really enjoy to be able to have the chance to play in the MLB because i feel like i can and i have already put so much time into the sport. i believe i can make it and show all the people that didn't believe in me that i did and i want the feeling so bad. i know its going to happen but i have to be successful first and do what i have to do.
by me making it to the MLB it would open the doors for me because its all i ever wanted and my dad and family ever wanted. and i want to show them that i could do it so that i could show all the people that downed me all the times that i had told them that i wanted to go pro. it would really change who i am and what kind of person i am, this is a dream that hasn't been awaken yet. ReplyDeleteWhen I turn 80 I'm going to probably lose most of my hair from old age, but I won't need any help to move around and I would own like help if I asked. What I would do in my state a 80 is travel around the world and do things I've always wanted to do run a marathon, skydive, and have a fantastic adventure so that I can always know that I've done some cool things in my life.Next I try to find some type of ancient treasure in a lost temple, that would be one of my biggest achievement.
I'd look old and probably have tired eyes, but I would be still feel of energy. I wouldn't look my age if I were 80, I might look like someone in there 60's. I really hope that I don't have any have any bald spots on my head, because I'd have to wear a hat for most of the time. Other then that I would be the most muscular old man that anyone would see.
I would like to live in Washington ,D.C or Cleveland ,Ohio they seem to be great places, because there's not much violence out there and it would be a great place to live. If I didn't live in the United States it would be in the U.K Because one of my favorite TV show is there. It would be great to see it cause I think that the show is the greatest.
I'd have a part-time job, because there's even somethings that everyone can't do. I wouldn't stay retired from one job, because I don't want to waste my life away while I'm dying of old age ,so I want to build as many relationships that I can with others. By doing so I'll have a lot of good things to remember, and I hope that everyone can remember me as a person who was a bright spirit and a loving soul who would do anything for his friends, family, and others who have known me.
I would spend time with my wife, because I would love and be grateful for staying by my side through all the tragedies that the world has faced. Also, I would be happy with her because she chose me and stayed with me even through I messed up some times, she still loved me and I would be grateful for every moment that I had with her.
